Indonesian trade minister calls for boosting export improvement

Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indonesia's trade minister said here Wednesday that the country should firmly implement policies to boost export and further control import as global economic downturn would become a main challenge to increase export.

Trade Minister Thomas Lembong said that Indonesia had recorded positive performance in foreign trade in the first eight months this year and is likely to face uphill to improve its export next year.

Indonesia recorded trade surplus of 433.8 million U.S. dollars in August this year, bringing the total for the January-August period to 6.2 billion dollars.

However, he also called for people to remain sober-minded to possible fluctuations that might occur due to global economic downturn.

"The trade balance figure would go up and down from month to month. The most important thing is that we have to see the fundamental trend. I am personally very concerned," the minister said.

"To my opinion, we have to remain alert," he added. Endi
