Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two of the 18 Turkish workers abducted earlier in Iraqi capital of Baghdad a week ago have been released in Iraq's southern city of Basra, a police source said on Wednesday.

The two Turkish workers were freed by their kidnappers near an under-construction building in the city of Basra, some 550 km south of Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The two were blindfolded when the police found them late Tuesday night and were identified by their identification cards in their pockets, the source said.

On Sept. 2, unidentified gunmen in black uniforms riding 20 vehicles stormed a building of a Turkish construction company in Shiite bastion of Sadr city district in eastern Baghdad and abducted 18 Turkish workers.

The security situation in Iraq has drastically deteriorated since June 10 2014, when bloody clashes broke out between Iraqi security forces and the IS. Endit
