"Mission: Impossible" rules China's box office

"Mission: Impossible -- Rogue Nation," the fifth installment of the action franchise, ruled China's box office in the week ending Sept. 13, pulling in 550 million yuan (86.4 million U.S. dollars).

The film, which stars Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise, opened on Sept. 8.

"Minions" grossed 120 million yuan during its release on Sept. 13 to land in the second spot.

The third spot went to domestic thriller "The Dead End", which raked in 31 million yuan in the week, China Film News reported Wednesday. Its total ticket sales since its release on Aug. 27 reached 297.6 million yuan on Sept. 13.

"Terminator Genisys", the fifth sequel in the series, came in fourth, reaping 26.7 million yuan in the week. Its total box office sales hit 722.7 million yuan since opening on Aug. 23.

Rounding out the top five was the domestic live action animated film "Monster Hunt", the highest-grossing film in the Chinese market, with 17.8 million yuan. Its total box office earnings stood at 2.44 billion yuan on Sept. 13 since its debut on on July 16. Endi
