S. Africa to champion African Agenda 2063 at FOCAC Summit

Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

South African President Jacob Zuma said on Tuesday that South Africa will try to ensure the implementation of the African Agenda 2063 and South-South Cooperation during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit later this year.

"During our tenure as co-chair of the FOCAC, South Africa will continue to ensure that principles of South-South cooperation are realized and that special attention is given to assisting the implementation of the African Union's Agenda 2063," Zuma told foreign ambassadors and high commissioners at a briefing on South African foreign policy in Pretoria.

Agenda 2063 is Africa's ambitious blue print which seeks to empower women, boost industrialization and economically develop the continent.

As co-chair of the FOCAC for the period 2012-2018, South Africa will host the second FOCAC Summit in Johannesburg in early December this year.

This will be the second FOCAC Summit since 2006 and the first on the African continent.

It is expected that all heads of state or government from African countries, as well as heads of regional organizations and multilateral organizations will participate in the summit on December 4-5.

The summit will be preceded by a Meeting of Senior Officials on December 2, followed by the Sixth Ministerial Meeting of FOCAC on December 3. Endit
