The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) indicated on Tuesday that some 1.2 million travelers used their services on a daily basis over the first six months of this year, representing a 3 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
SBB's revenue reached 92 million CHF (94.38 million U.S. dollars) by the end of the first half of 2015, a 34 million CHF rise compared to 2014.
There was also an increase in customer satisfaction at 74 percent.
In terms of punctuality, a small decline was observed (dropping from 89.6 percent last year to 87.4 percent by the end of June this year), a trend largely attributed to network maintenance, adverse meteorological conditions as well as problems related to infrastructure.
Passenger statistics reflect a positive first half for 2015, though SBB indicated that railway freight registered a 0.3 percent decline, dropping from 7.637 million tonne-km in 2014 to 7,616 this year.
SBB indicated that freight transport in the confederation suffered from the strong Swiss Franc as well as declining exports and imports, engendering a 25 million CHF loss for SBB Cargo in this year's first half compared to a 15 million CHF loss last year. Endit
