Kenya beat Cameroon to win women's volleyball All Africa Games gold

Xinhua, September 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Kenya's junior team on Monday beat Cameroon to win the women's volleyball gold medal at the 2015 All Africa Games.

In the absence of the senior team that is playing at the Federation of International Volleyball World Cup in Japan, Kenya defeated Egypt in the semifinal to set up the final against Cameroon who had beaten them in the group stage.

The team coached by Paul Gitau recovered after making a poor start to beat Cameroon 15-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 in a game played at the Indoor Gymnasium in central Brazzaville.

"This is a sweet win after using young school girls in this competition. This means we have many players who are capable of performing well," said the coach after the game.

Kenya last won the All Africa Games title in South Africa in 1999.

Egypt beat Seychelles 3-0 in the third place play-off. Endi
