ELN rebels kill 3 soldiers in northeastern Colombia

Xinhua, September 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Three Colombian soldiers were killed early Monday in an ambush carried out by the National Liberation Army (ELN) insurgents in the northeastern department of Norte del Santander.

The soldiers were on their way to receive a group of demobilized rebels when they were "ambushed, attacked and brutally murdered," Colombia's army commander Alberto Mejia told local media.

The soldiers were travelling on motorcycles when the insurgents opened fire and threw grenades on the road, said a statement released by the army.

One of the dead soldiers was found "incinerated and dismembered because of the attack," according to the statement.
