Nigeria to battle Burkina Faso in All Africa Games football semis

Xinhua, September 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Burkina Faso will now face Nigeria in the first football semifinal of the All Africa Games on Tuesday.

Hosts Congo who lost their last group game 1-0 to Zimbabwe on Sunday will also play on Tuesday in the second semifinal clash against Group B runners-up Senegal.

To reach the semis Burkina Faso needed to go through lots conducted on Monday morning by officials of the ad-hoc organizing committee and the Confederation of African Football.

Both Burkina Faso and Sudan had scored and conceded two goals in their first two Group A outings before playing to a goalless draw in their final tie on Sunday.

The only way to separate the two teams was therefore to conduct a drawing of lots, which saw the Sudanese losing out in a cruel fashion.

Speaking to Xinhua, Nigeria's coach Samson Siasia said although he knows Burkina Faso are a generally physical team, they will go all out for early goals because this is now the knock out stage.

"We shall not be over confident, but go out there to finish the job early," said the former Nigerian International.

Nigeria beat defending champions Ghana 2-0 and drew with Senegal 1-1 to reach the semis.

Burkina Faso stopped Zimbabwe 1-0 before falling 2-1 to Congo and drawing 0-0 with Sudan. Endi
