Remittances to Albania up 17 pct in Q2

Xinhua, September 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Remittances to Albania reached 162 million euros (183 million U.S. dollars) in the second quarter of this year, up 17 percent year-on-year, the Albanian Daily News reported Tuesday.

In the first half of 2015, remittances to the Balkan country were estimated to be 304 million euros (343 million dollars), up 19 percent year-on-year, the newspaper quoted data from the Bank of Albania as saying.

Experts said that the increase in remittances was mainly due to the improvement of the economies of the European countries where Albanian migrants live and work as well as the return of more migrants to Albania.

Thousands of Albanian migrants that used to live and work in countries like Greece or Italy have chosen to return to Albania permanently and invest their savings here by opening new businesses. Endi
