World's best archers prepare for Rio test event

Xinhua, September 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

World No. 1 Ki Bo Bae will be among a host of world-class archers on show during the 11th Rio 2016 test event starting on Tuesday.

The event, which will run from Sept. 15-22, includes 11 medalists from the London 2012 Olympics, organizers said on Monday.

Joining Ki Bo Bae - the individual and team champion in London - is her fellow South Korean Im Dong Hyun, the winner of two gold and one bronze at Olympic Games.

Italy's Marco Galiazzo, whose Olympic medal haul includes two golds and one silver, will also compete.

"It will be a unique opportunity for the athletes," Rio 2016 archery competition manager Luiz Eduardo Almeida told Rio2016.com.

"It will be a chance to get accustomed, for example, to the wind conditions at the venue. With two closed sides at the Sambodromo, the wind corridor can alter the shooting conditions for archers."

Some 593 people will work at the event - including 138 volunteers - across 28 departments, organizers said. Endi
