DAMASCUS -- At least 26 people were killed and more than 70 others wounded Monday in twin suicide bombings that rocked Syria's northeastern province of Hasakah, state news agency SANA reported.
A woman and her two children were among the killed, when two explosions rattled the neighborhoods of Khashman and Mahatta in Hasakah, said SANA. (Syria-Bombing)

WASHINGTON -- Local and federal law enforcement officials were searching a Mississippi university campus on Monday after an active shooter shot to death a male professor and left the campus on edge for hours.
Ethan Schmidt, an assistant professor of American history at Delta State University in Mississippi, was shot in the head while in his office, said local deputy coroner Murray Roark at a press conference. (U.S.-Shooting)

UNITED NATIONS -- The UN General Assembly concluded its 69th session Monday and is on track to build momentum for the Post-2015 Development Agenda, to be adopted at an upcoming summit.
"This (69th) session presented us with a historic opportunity to change our world, for the better. We achieved a great deal, and I am very grateful to Member States, the Secretary-General, and key actors, for the superb support each provided to our collective efforts," said Sam Kutesa, president of the 69th session of the General Assembly. WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon said Monday Russia's recent military buildup in Syria indicated that it intended to create a military base in Syria.
"We have seen indications in recent days that Russia has moved people and things into the area around Latakia (Syria's coastal province) and the air base there that suggests that it intends to establish some sort of a forward air operating base," Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said at the daily briefing.
