Tunisia says incapable of receiving more Syrian refugees

Xinhua, September 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tunisia cannot receive new Syrian refugees given the limited resources and the current economic situation," announced Tunisian Vice Minister of Immigration and Social Integration Belgacem Sabri on Monday.

Sabri stated that Tunisia has already welcomed around 4,000 Syrian refugees who are benefiting from social aid and the state's support.

"The Tunisian state has encouraged aid on different occasions for Syrian refugees through the Tunisian Union of Social Solidarity," he added.

Most of the children of Syrian refugees are enrolled in public schools, and all refugees are treated equally to Tunisian citizens in terms of public services and social care, according to Sabri.

Millions of Syrians have fled their country because of war, which led to a refugee crisis in the region. Endit
