Australia's senior cabinet minister Malcolm Turnbull launched a leadership challenge against Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Monday.

Turnbull told a press conference that he was resigning as the communications minister to challenge the premier for the Liberal Party leadership, informing Abbott after question time in parliament.
