World No. 1 Novak Djokovic beat 17-time major winner Roger Federer 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, clinching his second US Open championship and his 10th career Grand Slam title here on Sunday.
"I love the sport. I have a lot of passion. Last thing, I'll see you guys next year," said Federer.
The victory gave Djokovic his third Slam of the year following wins in Australia and at Wimbledon and a loss in the final of Roland Garros and Djokovic evened his career head-to-head with Federer at 21 each.
This year, Djokovic joined Federer and Rod Laver as the only man in the Open era to reach all four major finals, his only defeat coming in the final of the French Open against Stan Wawrinka.
"It's quite an incredible evening for me," said Djokovic, "I have to share my admiration for Roger and everything he's doing."
Djokovic took the first set from Federer 6-4 before Federer coming back in the second set on 7-5. In the third set, Federer missed several break opportunities as Djokovic steadied and served out the set at 6-4. Then Djokovic pulled away in the fourth set and served for the match at 5-2 in the final set, but Federer rallied to make it 5-4. In the end, Djokovic closed out the match 6-4. Endi
