16 killed when truck overturns in southern India

At least 16 people were killed and several others injured when the lorry they were traveling in overturned in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh on Monday, said police.

The victims were mostly agricultural laborers who died when the vehicle tilted at Gandepalli in east Godavari district of the state in the early hours.

The vehicle also carried clinker and some were crushed to death by the material, the police said.

The driver, who was allegedly sleeping, was absconding after the accident.

Road accidents take place frequently in India with at least 120, 000 killed every year, according to official estimates. Endi
