Tokyo shares end sharply lower

Tokyo shares ended the trading Monday sharply lower on poor performances in China's stocks market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 298.52 points, or 1. 63 percent, from Friday at 17,965.70.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 17.82 points, or 1.20 percent, to 1, 462.41.

Decliners were led by information and communication, mining and insurance issues.

The turnover was about 2,055.4 billion yen (about 17.08 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
