Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi accepted on Saturday the cabinet resignation headed by Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb, according to a statement from the president office.
The statement said that Sisi received the resignation together with a detailed report about the government's performance during the recent period.
The cabinet will act as a caretaker government until a new one is formed, the statement said.
The outgoing Petroleum Minister Sherif Ismail was then asked by Sisi to form a new government within a week, Egypt's official news agency MENA reported.
On Monday, the prime minister's office announced that Agriculture Minister Salah Helal was arrested for being involved in corruption.
Mehleb was first sworn in as the prime minister in March 2014 after the sudden resignation of ex-premier Hazem al-Beblawi who took office in July 2013 after the army removed former Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.
In June 2014, President Sisi accepted Mehleb's cabinet resignation and reappointed him to form a new government.
Saturday's resignation came one month before Egypt's legislative elections. Endit
