Abbas slams Israeli court for legalizing demolition of Palestinian homes

Xinhua, September 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas slammed on Friday the Israeli Supreme Court for allowing the demolition of Palestinian homes in the West Bank.

"The demolition of homes is a demolition of all the agreements signed between the Israeli and Palestinian sides, since Oslo agreement until now," Abbas told reporters in Ramallah.

His remarks were made in response to the Israeli court legalized the demolition of Palestinian homes in areas (A) and (B) in the West Bank, according to what the Israeli media said earlier on Friday.

According to the Oslo agreement, signed between Israel and the Palestinians in 1993, Israel classified the West Bank into three areas; area (A) under a full Palestinian control, area (B) under a joint Israeli-Palestinian control and area (C) under a full Israeli control.

Meanwhile, Abbas also told reporters that besides the demolition of homes, Israel keeps waging its aggression on al-Aqsa Mosque, adding that "this will stop sooner or later because al-Aqsa Mosque and all our holy sites are ours."

"One day, we will raise the Palestinian flag on al-Aqsa Mosque, the Church and all our holy places," said Abbas.

Earlier on Friday, the Israeli Haaretz Daily reported that the judges of the Israeli supreme court decided that the Israeli authorities have the authorization to demolish Palestinian homes in both areas (A) and (B) in addition to area (C).

Meanwhile, Abbas stressed that the UN decision to raise the flag of Palestine on its agencies and buildings "is an important step in the history of the Palestinian cause."

"When we go next month to participate in the UN General Assembly meeting in New York, our flag will be raised like other countries' flags," said Abbas, adding that "and certainly, our flag will be raised soon in Jerusalem."

He stressed that the Palestinians made a big achievement in the UN, adding "in the past the countries were voting against our bids were nine countries and now they dropped to eight countries, so this means that opposition is declining." Endit
