Lyon to train Vietnamese footballers

Xinhua, September 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Lyon, runner-up at the 2014-2015 French league, is going to train and produce a team of skilled Vietnamese footballers for Ho Chi Minh City over the next 10 years, Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.

The plan was mentioned during the club's working session with Ho Chi Minh City authorities on September 10, following a three-day field trip around the city.

The club's experts suggested designing a comprehensive scheme covering the training of coaches and construction of a football academy. It will assign technique experts to Vietnam to recruit and train young footballers as well as outline development orientations for the academy.

Deputy Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan asked the municipal Department of Culture and Sports and the Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the club for the foreseeable future, covering men and women's football and futsal.

Lyon had won the French league for seven consecutive years, from 2002 to 2008. Endi
