Indonesia hails UN resolution on Palestine's flag rising

Xinhua, September 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Indonesian government welcomes the new UN resolution that allows the rising of Palestine flag at the international body's headquarters in New York, an official said here on Friday.

Spokesman of Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry Armantha Nasir disclosed said that the endorsement of the resolution is one of the steps to strengthen the struggle of the people of Palestine to get international acknowledgement over their state. "Symbolically and politically, this resolution is important. This equalizes the rights of the non-member country and strengthens the process toward a UN full membership for Palestine, "he said at the foreign ministry.

Indonesia has frequently given strong support to Palestine to become an independent state, such as by promoting"two state solutions,"said Nasir.

The spokesman revealed that Indonesia is now establishing a consulate office in Ramallah. "This is one of steps indicating our support to the independence of the Palestine," he disclosed.

Indonesia has also provided humanitarian aids to Palestine, including financial assistance and the establishment of a field hospital.

Indonesia has no diplomatic relation with Israel.

The UN resolution over the flag rising was endorsed after the UN General Assembly voted over the draft with 119 countries giving their approval, 45 nations abstain and eight others against it.

The United States and Israel are among the eight nations rejecting the endorsement. Endi
