Indian trooper wounded in skirmishes with Pakistan military on Kashmir LoC

Xinhua, September 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

As heads of border guards of India and Pakistan agreed to devise policies to reduce tensions between them, an Indian military trooper was wounded in fresh skirmishes Thursday with Pakistan military on Line of Control (LoC) that divides Kashmir, an India officer said.

"Forward areas of Krishna Ghati sector witnessed unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani army today at 5:00 p.m. (local time)," said Lt Col Manish Mehta, a military spokesman.

"Pakistan fired automatics, small arms gun fire in which one soldier got wounded."

The commanders of India's Border Security Force and Pakistan Rangers began on Thursday a three-day dialogue in New Delhi and decided to devise new strategies to put an end to incidents of ceasefire violations along the International Border in Kashmir.

The border guards of India's Border Security Force said in a press release the ongoing talks progressed in a most "congenial" and "positive" environment.

The meeting was planned by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif when they met in July in Ufa, Russia, on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

Both New Delhi and Islamabad accuse each other of resorting to unprovoked firings and violating cease-fire agreements. And both sides maintain that their troops gave befitting reply to the other side. Endi
