Xinhua, September 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nigeria went top of Group B after a 2-0 win over Champions Ghana in a 2015 All Africa Games football game played at the Unity Stadium in Kintele on Wednesday.

The Nigerians who did not play on Day one because their would be opponents Egypt withdrew two weeks to the event were in good form and run rings around the Ghana team that won gold in the 2011 event in Mozambique.

Junior Ajayi and Kingsley Sokari each scored in the second half for the Nigerians.

The defeat leaves Ghana on the brink of facing elimination if Senegal beat Nigeria on Saturday.

Senegal and Ghana have a point each after their goalless draw in the opening game .

Nigeria dictated the pace of the game from the onset asking the Ghanaian defence several questions.

Their control of the midfield led to pressure on the Black Meteors back-line forcing goalkeeper Samuel Ofori, the busier of the two shot stoppers, to make a couple of saves.

Coach Samson Siasia's team scored in the 55 minute through Ajayi who tapped in.

The champions tried to fight back but failed to break the Nigerian defense line. Sokari sealed victory three minutes from time with the second goal.

On Thursday hosts Congo Brazzaville will face Burkina Faso in a Group A match. Congo beat Sudan 2-1 in the opening match, while Burkina Faso also managed a 1-0 win over Zimbabwe.

The winner of each of the groups and runner-up will qualify for the semis. Endit
