Silk road towards Krynica: Polish Davos forum explores the prospects

Xinhua, September 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

The 25th edition of Poland's annual economy forum, known as Polish Davos, was held in the southern town of Krynica. This year's edition included also a Chinese evening entitled: Silk Road towards Krynica.

Chinese panelists took the opportunity to explore and consider the role that Poland and the whole Eastern European region could play in the strategic projects of the Belt and Road initiative. Discussions surrounded fields of possible cooperation between Poland and Chinese regions such as Jilin, Hunan, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Guizhou provinces.

Chinese delegates also shared their experiences on the sustainable development of tourist regions and attracting investments to the region. Another issue raised was a new opportunity for European capital, namely the developing retirement service industry in China.

Yu Xinfan, Mayor of Furong District, Changsha, said of this burgeoning industry in China, "For a long time, European capital investment in China has focused on the manufacturing industry [...] the European capital together with advanced service concept and management technology can effectively meet the needs of China's retirement service market and find excellent returns, a win-win cooperation of both sides," he said.

Zhang Jianguo, executive Vice-President of Shaanxi Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, underlined the necessity for cooperation. "China and Europe should continue to support each other on the macro level and speed up infrastructure construction, [...] both sides should optimize trade structure and make two-way mutual investment. The EU and middle and eastern European countries should lift control on exporting high-tech and high value-added products and exporting more green products."

Delegations from Jilin, Guizhou and Gansu presented their current situations and expressed hope to strengthen cooperation with Poland, especially in the fields of environment protection, agriculture, and food processing, exhibitions, tourism, vehicle and automobile industry.

The event runs until Sept. 10. Endit
