Uganda won her first medal at the on-going All Africa Games in Congo on Wednesday after Edwin Ekiring lost in the semi-finals in badminton.
The top African player failed to tame South Africa's Prakash Vijayanath who won 21-15, 22-20 in a tight contest.
"I tried to get my game plan but failed. I think it was not my day," Ekiring told Xinhua after the game.
Ekiring said despite the loss and settling for a bronze medal he will remain focused to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games.
South Africa's Jacob Maliekal who won gold in the 2011 Games also made it to the finals after seeing off Nigeria's Clement Krobakpo 21-18, 21-14. Krobakpo will also settle for a bronze medal.
In the women's singles Nigerian Gabriel Grace also moved close to retaining her gold medal after she dismissed Mauritius' Chan Lam 21-9, 21-10 in the semi-finals, while Foo Kune (Mauritius) beat Nadia Hosny (Egypt) in the second semi-final 21-12, 21-10.
All Uganda's other badminton players fell out in the first round, while Daisy Nakalyango failed to play in the mixed and women's doubles because she suffered a convulsion. Endit
