China's Foreign Ministry comments on Abe's re-election as party leader

Xinhua, September 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday that China "has noticed relevant reports" about Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's re-election as president of the Liberal Democratic Party.

Spokesman Hong Lei's remarks at the ministry's routine press briefing came after Abe was re-elected as president of the ruling party on Tuesday.

Hong called on Japan to work with China to properly deal with issues in bilateral relations and make concrete efforts to improve China-Japan ties.

China "also hopes Japan will continue on a path of peaceful development to play a constructive role in regional peace, stability and development," said Hong.

China has always insisted on promoting China-Japan relations based on the four political documents and the spirit of "learning from history and facing the future," according to Hong.

The spokesman stressed that maintaining healthy, stable development of ties is in line with the common interests of the two countries and peoples. Endi
