AU hails China's strategic partnership for peace in Africa

Xinhua, September 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The African Union (AU) has appreciated China's strategic partnership for peace in Africa.

AU Commissioner for Peace and Security Smail Chergui and head of China's Permanent Mission to AU Kuang Weilin on Monday signed a grant agreement at AU Headquarters in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, which sees China donating 1.2 million U.S. dollars to support the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM),

The AU commissioner thanked the Chinese Government for the grant and recalled that in September 2014, China donated 2 million dollars to support AU's efforts to fight against the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Chergui also said in January 2015, China again donated 1.2 million dollars to the AU Peace Fund.

"This latest grant will help enhance the heroic efforts of Africa's soldiers for peace in Somalia," he said.

Kuang reassured the commissioner that China would continue to stand with Africa, as the continent strives to rid itself of conflict and achieve sustainable development and prosperity for its people. Endit
