30 Egyptian doctors arrive in Ghana to assist in health care

Xinhua, September 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Egypt has dispatched 30 medical doctors to Ghana to assist in providing care to Ghanaians.

The initial 15 doctors arrived in Ghana last Saturday at the request of the Ministry of Health (MOH), according to a release by the MOH on Monday.

The doctors will assume medical duties for two weeks, the statement said.

The team is made up of three surgical consultants, two dentists, a dentist specialist, orthopedist, urologist, pulmonologist, gynecologist and cardiologist, among others.

These doctors, who will be complementing the efforts of their Ghanaian counterparts, will be distributed across the country to provide the needed care to the citizenry.

The rest will also serve a period of two weeks.

The Ghanaian government announced last month that it would fall on 177 medical doctors from foreign countries to take care of patients in public hospitals boycotted by striking Ghanaian doctors.

Additionally, 16 Cuban doctors already working in rural areas of the country would be moved to the major hospitals to provide health care.

The decision followed the nationwide withdrawal of services by public sector doctors in demand for conditions of service. Endit
