1st LD Writethru: Hungarian defence minister Csaba Hende resigns

Hungary's Defence Minister Csaba Hende submitted his resignation on Monday, which has been accepted by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Hungarian News Agency MTI reported.

Orban asked Istvan Simicsko to manage the defence portfolio. Simicsko has served as state secretary for sports at the Ministry of Human Resources since 2014.

According to the Hungarian Government Information Centre, before Hende submitted his resignation, the government's national security cabinet met in a session to assess the migration situation and heard a report about the state of the the fence being constructed along the 175-km-long Hungarian-Serbian border.

Hende submitted his resignation to Orban following the meeting. He has served as defence minister since 2010. Enditem
