An assailant was Sunday night killed in clashes between gunmen and soldiers at Buringa village of Bubanza province, 15 km west of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, Burundi National Radio reported Monday.

The state-run radio reported that on top of the killed assailant, a gun, three chargers and ammunition were seized during the fighting.

According to the radio, the armed group was made up by six persons with guns and in military uniforms.

The radio also reported that the gunmen entered Buringa from Rukoko natural reserve.

After the clashes, the remaining five assailants retreated to Rukoko natural forest on the border between Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

The state-run radio indicated that the unidentified armed group has been abducting people during the recent months and released them after paying a ransom. Endit
