Israeli PM sends condolences to Palestinian family after mother of baby dies in arson attack

Xinhua, September 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent on Monday his condolences to the Dawabsha family following the death of Riham Dawabsha, who was critically wounded in a West Bank arson attack by Jewish extremists, according to a statement.

"The security forces are doing their utmost to apprehend the assailants and bring them to justice," Netanyahu said in his statement.

Riham, who lost her 18-month-old son and husband in an arson attack on their home in the Palestinian village of Duma on July 31, died overnight from her wounds at an Israeli hospital.

She was critically injured when firebombs were hurled at their home, and suffered from third-degree burns, which covered 90 percent of her body, according to medical personnel from the Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv.

Her situation took a turn for the worse over the weekend, and died overnight between Sunday and Monday.

Her four-year-old son, Ahmed, has survived that attack and is hospitalized at the Sheba Medical Center, with second-degree burns on 60 percent of his body.

The police opened an investigation immediately after the incident but have yet to arrest any suspects.

The deadly attack followed a surging wave of attacks by Jewish ultra-nationalists against Palestinians, churches, mosques and other holy sites, with only handful of indictments handed down over the past years. Endit
