Suspected S. African drug trafficker nabbed at Kenya capital airport

Xinhua, September 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Kenya's anti-narcotics police has arrested a South African woman who were allegedly found trafficking drugs at the capital airport.

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Criminal Investigation Deparment (CID) commander Judy Jebet said 29-year-old Dorothea Cecilia Elizabeth was travelling from Sao Paolo, Brazil to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia through Nairobi.

"The suspect was arrested on Sunday night. We need more time to weigh the narcotics and know the value," Jebet told Xinhua by telephone.

She said police discovered several kilograms of white powder on the bottom of the suspect's suitcase.

It is the latest in a series of arrests of alleged drug traffickers in the past days. Last week, a Dutch national and a Guinean national were arrested at the airport with drugs.

Most suspcted traffickers arrested at JKIA are in transit. Cases of drug trafficking through JKIA are said to be on the rise, with more Africans becoming involved, especially in those of heroin.

The United Nations has identified East African nations as a transport hub for drugs going to Europe from Asia and Middle East. Enditem
