Zambia's FA chief hails team for beating Kenya

Xinhua, September 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

The head of Zambia's soccer governing body on Monday hailed the national soccer team for its victory over Kenya in a 2017 Gabon Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.

The Chipolopolo (The Bullets) beat the Harambe Stars at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi 2-1 to brighten chances of qualifying for the 2017 Africa showpiece.

The victory pushed the 2012 Africa Cup winners to four points and are joint leaders of Group E with Congo Brazzaville who thrashed Guinea Bissau 4-2.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya said it was delightful that the team managed to grab three full points away from home.

"Like I told you last time, you are a capable lot that can write its own positive history. I want to congratulate you and also thank our God for this victory," he said in a statement posted on the association's website.

He said the team has the capability to do wonders if they remained united and have self-belief.

The team had to come from behind to beat Kenya who had taken the lead in the 13th minute through striker Michael Olunga. The equalizer came in the 28th minute through striker Winston Kalengo, with veteran striker Collins Mbesuma scoring the winning goal in the 42nd minute. Endi
