Refugee crisis concerns fight for Slovakian values: Slovak president

Xinhua, September 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

There is a need for further discussions on the refugee crisis, not regarding quotas and solidarity between EU states, but because human beings are in need of help, announced Slovak President Andrej Kiska on Monday.

"What country would we like to be and what are we capable of doing in order to achieve this? We'll lose the fight for our character and the heart of Slovakia if we don't distinguish between fear of the unknown and open hatred, contempt for human lives, extremism, xenophobia, and fascism," emphasised Kiska, referring to statements about refugees as potential terrorists or economic profiteers.

The president praised all people who spontaneously and without political support helped refugees.

"These people have shown that goodness, compassion, and understanding are permanent values of the people of Slovakia," said Kiska. Endit
