Iceland sees increase of foreign visitor overnight stays in July

The number of foreigners who stayed overnight in Icelandic hotels registered a year-on-year increase of 19 percent in July, official figures showed on Friday.

According to statistics issued by Statistics Iceland, the number of people who paid for accommodations in Icelandic hotels rose to 351,700 in July, a 17 percent increase from the figure of July 2014.

Meanwhile, foreign tourists accounted for 92 percent of the people who stayed in Icelandic hotels in July, up 19 percent compared with the figure in July 2014. The number of Icelandic citizens staying overnight in hotels decreased 3 percent over the same period.

Foreigners who stayed overnight in Iceland in July were mostly residents from Germany, the United States and Britain.

In the last 12 months, from August 2014 until July 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 2,556,990 which is an increase of around 17 percent compared with the same period in the previous year. Enditem
