Eurozone retail trade rises by 0.4pct in July

The retail sales in 19-country Eurozone returned to an upward track with a rise 0.4 percent in July on a monthly basis after June's drop, official data shows on Thursday, suggesting a welcome recovery in consumption.
The figure reversed the worrying fall in June which with a reading of a negative 0.2 percent, according to Eurostat, the European Union (EU) statistics agency.
The July increase was due to rises of 0.8 percent for automotive fuel, of 0.2 percent for "food, drinks and tobacco" and of 0.1 percent for non-food products, the agency said.
On a yearly basis, the Euro area enjoyed a 2.7 percent increase, Eurostat noted.
Among member states, the largest economy Germany saw 1.4 percent growth in July month on month, more than making up for the previous month's 1.0 percent fall.
However the sales in second biggest France declined by 0.2 percent, the first fall since April.
In wider EU, the sales rose by 0.3 percent month by month and by 3.3 percent year on year, Euro said. Endit
