Boat carrying about 100 people capsizes off Malaysia

A boat carrying about 100 people capsized early Thursday morning off the western coast of Malaysia in the Malacca Strait, according to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

Malaysian local media Astro Awani said that the incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. local time, which was witnessed by a fisherman near the area.

It said that a rescue team and materials have been mobilized by the MMEA to the location of the incident, and it is still unknown whether there are any casualties.

The passengers are believed to be illegal immigrants, it added. Endi
