One Afghan soldier has been killed and two others sustained injuries during cleanup operations in Asmar district of the eastern Kunar province with Assadabad as its capital, 185 km east of Kabul, on Thursday, provincial police chief Abdul Habib Sayedkhili said.

The clash erupted after the Taliban militants blocked the road linking Asmar to Ghazi Abad district and the security forces launched cleanup operations on Wednesday to reopen the road.

Without commenting on Taliban casualties, Sayedkhili added that the cleanup operations would last till reopening the road and ensuring lasting peace in both Asmar and Ghazi Abad districts as well as adjoining areas.

Asmar district in the eastern Kunar province has been regarded as Taliban hotbed in the mountainous province along the border with Pakistan's lawless tribal areas. Endi
