Canada's Barber wins men's pole vault at Zurich Main Station

Xinhua, September 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Newly-crowned world champion Shawn Barber of Canada won the men's pole vault champion with 5.92 meters at the IAAF Diamond League finals here on Wednesday.

When the bar was raised to 5.77 meters, Barber became the only on to clear the height.

World bronze medalist Piotr Lisek of Poland finished second with 5.67 meters and 2013 world champion and Beijing silver medalist Raphael Holzdeppe of Germany was third.

"I suffered a bit of jet lag returning from the Beijing world championships. But today I am still happy with third place," said Holzdeppe.

Then Barber flew over the new Canadian indoor record of 5.92 meters but he failed in three attempts at the height of 6.01 meters.

"It's a good idea to jump in the main station. I hope I can come back next year," said Scherbarth.
