Xi meets Kyrgyz counterpart

President Xi Jinping on Wednesday met with his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev, who is in Beijing for events marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The pair pledged further cooperation between their countries.

Economic cooperation should focus on major projects in energy, transportation and agriculture, and China is ready to work with Kyrgyzstan to help its stability and development under the framework of the Silk Road Economic Belt, Xi said.

Atambayev voiced appreciation for China's help in Kyrgyzstan's development.

He said the country is willing to cooperate more with China in the economy and security, as well as in regional trade and infrastructure through the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union.

After the meeting, the two presidents witnessed the signing of agreements on cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries, as well as partnerships in technology and regional affairs. Endi
