Gaza Palestinian shot, arrested for infiltrating into Israel

Xinhua, September 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Israeli army wounded and arrested a Palestinian man on Wednesday after he infiltrated from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel, Israeli Radio quoting an Israeli army spokesman reported.

The radio said that the Palestinian infiltrated into Israel by the sea, where he swam from northern Gaza Strip into Israel to reach the southern Israeli beach of Zikim.

The radio report added that Israeli security forces noticed the man's movement and opened fire at him. He was moderately injured and taken to an Israeli hospital.

The Palestinian man's ID was not revealed, and there was no immediate comment from the Palestinian side.

Over the past few weeks, the number of Palestinians infiltrating from the Gaza Strip into Israel has been increasing. Most of those who got arrested said they are escaping from the inhuman repression of the Hamas movement.

The living conditions in the Gaza Strip are getting harder due to an ongoing Israeli blockade and closure of the crossing points since the Islamic Hamas movement violently took over the coastal enclave in 2007. Endit
