11 Syrian refugees drown in Aegean Sea off Turkey

Eleven Syrian refugees drowned and five others were missing on Wednesday when two boats separately sank in the Aegean Sea off western Turkey, private Dogan news agency reported.

One boat with 16 Syrian refugees onboard that was heading for the Greek Island of Istankoy sank in the Aeagean Sea off the Bodrum town of the Mugla province, according to the report.

Seven bodies of the refugees were recovered, while four were rescued and five others missing. Turkish Coast Guards are continuing to searching for the missing.

Meanwhile, four Syrian refugees including one woman and three children drowned as another boat heading for the same Greek island sank in the same sea area.

Turkey, which is geographically located between Asia and Europe, is a major transit point for Middle Eastern and Asian migrants and refugees fleeing from poverty or conflict in their home countries. Endit
