Xinhua, September 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Myanmar's Union Election Commission (UEC) Wednesday stressed holding of the upcoming general election scheduled for Nov. 8 in a free and fair manner.

At a press conference, Chairman of the UEC U Tin Aye called on civil organizations, political parties and media persons to cooperate in holding the election.

He disclosed that an election monitoring committee will be formed to ensure the successful holding of the election.

In addition, he said the commission will invite international observers to monitor the election, revealing that so far four international groups have been invited which include the Carter Center, a NGO founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, and the European Union.

He also disclosed that of the 6,189 electoral nominees nationwide, 88 were disqualified but rights are offered to them to appeal against the rejection.

He told the press that the list of qualified electoral nominees will be announced in days, adding that 18,000 Myanmar people working abroad may cast their votes in advance.

Meanwhile, the commission announced on Tuesday that the nationwide electoral roll will be released on Sept. 14 for the upcoming general election.

The commission set candidates to canvass for election in their respective constituencies from Sept. 8 to Nov. 6.

Political parties and candidates are allowed to use state- operated radio and TV in their campaigning. Endi
