Zambian female boxer gets new South African opponent

Xinhua, September 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Zambia's female boxing sensation Esther Phiri will now face a new opponent in her welterweight unification title fight, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.

Julie Tshabalala of South Africa took place of Sandra Almeida of South Africa, who withdrew from the September 18 rematch due to a busy schedule. The South African boxer was ruthlessly clobbered by her Zambian counterpart on May 22 despite the fight ending in a technical fight.

Anthony Mwamba, the Zambian boxer's manager and trainer said the fight will now be held on October 23 in Lusaka, the Zambian capital.

"All the boxing stakeholders including the Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) and the World Boxing Federation (WBF), have sanctioned this fight. It is on and preparations are underway," he was quoted as saying by the paper.

The South African fighter, 35, has fought nine times, won five, lost two and drawn two while the Zambian boxer has won 14 of her 19 fights, drawing three, two losses and two draws. Endit
