Faulty locking mechanism causes emergency landing of Bulgarian PM's plane

Xinhua, September 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

A faulty locking mechanism of the nose landing gear caused the emergency landing of the government aircraft Falcon with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on board on Sunday, officials said Tuesday.

"The conclusion of the experts is that the fault occurred mid-air at the time of retraction of the gear," the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications said in a statement on its website.

The Falcon is to be repaired and put into operation after completion of all necessary tests, the statement said.

The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski would inform Borissov about the status of the airplane, and "a technical and financial evaluation of its use for state tasks will be carried out," the statement added.

The technical problem occurred on Sunday shortly after the French-built aircraft took off from the airport of Varna, and it landed successfully back at the airport.

In February, the same aircraft with Borissov on board made a successful emergency landing at Sofia Airport after its left landing gear did not retract. Endit
