Five EU-funded films to compete in Venice Int'l Film Festival

Xinhua, September 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five European Union (EU)-funded films are competing in the 72nd Venice International Film Festival which starts on Wednesday, said the press release of the European Commission on Tuesday.

The European Commission invested around 260,000 euros (292,487 U.S. dollars) through the Creative Europe MEDIA program to support the development and distribution of the five films, namely Marguerite, A Bigger Splash, L'Hermine, Krigen, (A War) and Taj Mahal, said the press release.

Each year, MEDIA supports around 2,000 European film and television projects, including series and other audio-visual works, which are distributed to cinemas, through video-on-demand, and aired on television.

Overall, through its MEDIA program, the Commission is to invest more than 100 million euros in European cinema and audio-visual industries during 2015.

The Venice Film Festival is also hosting the fourth edition of the European Film Forum, a platform for dialogue between policy makers and professionals of the film sector to explore how cooperation can help the future of the European film industry, added the press release. Endit
