FIBA 2015 Americas Championship, a training tournament for Brazil

Xinhua, September 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Brazil is already qualified for Rio 2016 Olympic Games but will use FIBA (International Basketball Federation) 2015 Americas Championship as an opportunity to strengthen training.

Brazil was the gold winner at Toronto 2015 Pan-American Games, so coach Ruben Magnano gave NBA players a rest interval and younger players from the local league will be the ones playing Americas Championship.

Magnano also called other players such as Guilerme Giovannoni, who have more time playing with the national team.

Brazil will open the tournament playing against Uruguay. Later it will face the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Panama.

If Brazil ends first or second, the ticket will be given to the third place.

At Spain 2014 World Cup, Brazil qualified to second round with four wins and one loss. They defeated Argentina in the round of 16 and in the quarterfinals they lost against Serbia and ended in sixth place.

Brazil's youngest players played against Mexico on Aug.14 in Super Four tournament, defeating the Mexicans 72-59. But Argentina defeated Brazil in the final 82-68. Endi
