Kristian Sbaragli (MTN Qhubeka) won a sprint finish at the end of the 10th stage of the Vuelta de Espana (Tour of Spain) cycle race.
The Italian finished inches ahead of German, John Degenkolb, who just failed to win his 10th Vuelta stage.
The last stage before the first rest day took the riders on a short 146 kilometer route between Valencia and Castellon on the east coast of Spain saw a third category climb, followed by a second category climb, seven kilometers long 25 kilometers before the end.
It assured a possible breakaway on the climb and a fast finish on the descent and the closing 10 kilometers into Castellon.
That indeed proved to be the case and as happened two days ago, there was a fall on the rapid descent.
The fall split the peloton, leaving a reduced group of around 30 riders to fight it out in the final sprint. A series of roundabouts in the closing kilometers and the fall meant it was hard for the sprinters teams to get organized and Sbaragli was the fastest in a scrappy sprint.
Meanwhile there is some consolation for Degenkolb, whose teammate Tom Dumoulin remains overall leader with an advantage of 57 seconds. Endite
