Xinhua, August 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Afghan security forces recaptured Musa Qala district in the southern Helmand province on Sunday, two days after the Pushtun-inhabited district was taken by the Taliban, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"In the wake of successful operations, the security forces inflicted huge casualties to the Taliban rebels in Musa Qala and reestablished government control there on Sunday," the statement said.

Some 220 militants including several foreigners have been killed and injured during the operations which have been continuing to ensure lasting peace there, the statement asserted.

However, it didn't say if there were casualties on security personnel, adding that more details will be made public after conclusion of the operations.

Taliban militants who captured Musa Qala on Friday are yet to make comment. Endi
