A TV reporter and a photographer were shot dead in the U.S. state of Virginia on Wednesday while conducting a live interview, their TV station WDBJ7 said.

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe told a local radio station that the suspect appeared to be a disgruntled employee of the same TV station. The shooting happened during a live broadcast around 6:45 a.m. local time (1045 GMT) at a shopping mall in Moneta, Virginia. Part of the shooting was broadcast since it was a live show. RAMADI, Iraq -- A total of 22 militants of the Islamic State (IS) extremist group were killed Wednesday in airstrikes in Iraq's western province of Anbar, a provincial security source said.

The international warplanes carried out the airstrikes on IS positions in Barwana area, near the town of Haditha, some 200 km northwest of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, leaving at least 10 militants killed and seven others wounded, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. NEW DELHI -- Five people were killed and more than 100 injured in clashes among various political groups in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Wednesday.

DAMASCUS -- At least 70 rebels were killed and 40 others wounded by Syrian airstrikes in Latakia Wednesday, amid ongoing military showdown near the area of Ghab Plains, the state-run SANA news agency and a monitor group reported.

The Syrian warplanes heavily struck positions of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front and affiliated militant groups in the northeastern countryside of Latakia, mainly in the towns of Rwaisat al-Malouha, Kitef Hariq and Jib al-Ahmar in the far northeastern part of Latakia, adjacent to the provinces of Idlib and Hama, said SANA. TOKYO -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has asked U.S. President Barack Obama to look into the alleged spying activities on the Japanese government and companies raised by the Wikileaks website earlier this month, local media reported Wednesday.
