Macao's retail sales fall 13 pct in Q2

Macao's retail sales for the second quarter of 2015 fell by 13 percent on year to 14.26 billion patacas (about 1.78 billion U.S. dollars), the city's Statistics and Census Service said Wednesday.

The value of retail sales of watches, clocks and jewelry, accounting for 21 percent of the total, decreased 29 percent year- on-year, followed by leather goods, adults' clothing and goods in department stores, the agency said.

Meanwhile, the sales of communication equipment and cosmetics and sanitary articles showed a notable increase of 37 percent and 20 percent, respectively.

Retail sales for the first half of 2015 totaled 30.54 billion patacas (about 3.82 billion U.S. dollars), down by 12 percent year- on-year.

With regard to business outlook for the third quarter, about 46 percent of the retailers anticipate that sales volume will decline, 37 percent expect sales volume to remain stable, while 17 percent expect an increase. Endi
